Some questions can't be answered at a desk. They need distance. Repetition. The specific exhaustion of a body that has been walking for over a week and has no performance left in it.

What sustains you when
inspiration isn't enough?

This pilgrimage takes place inside this question on the Camino de Santiago. We'll follow the oldest coastal walking route in the world: fourteen days, four people, one question carried the whole way. Before we leave, we'll spend a month studying the artists who made endurance their medium:

• Tehching Hsieh -- commitment before cost. The contract with yourself.

• Walter De Maria — the line as meaning. The distance between two points as the content.

• Chris Burden — the body in difficulty as deliberate choice. Risk as material.

• Ana Mendieta -- body and landscape as inseparable. Belonging, erasure, return.

• Marina Abramović -- presence, endurance, what you find at the end of something you weren't sure you could finish.
